Pablo Picasso Picasso was born in Spain in 1881 but spent most of his adult life in France. He is most noted for his paintings but he was also a sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, stage designer, poet and playwright. He was 91 when he died. The 3 periods that dominated his work were: Blue Period, Rose Period, Modern (Cubism, Classicism/Surrealism, African Influenced) His mural sized paining, “Guernica,” was in response to the bombing of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War by Germany and Italy in Depicting the tragedies of war and the suffering it inflicts upon innocent people, the painting is regarded as the single most important work of the 20 th century by some art historians.

L. S. Lowry L. S. Lowry was an English artist who was born in 1887 in Stretford, Lancashire, United Kingdom. His is known mainly for his paintings of industrial districts and urban landscapes. His human figures are sometimes referred to as “matchstick men.” Although he was a famous artist who earned many awards, Lowry worked at Pall Mall Property Company until he was 65 and did his painting at night and when he was on holiday.
