Elementary School Tasks for Reasoning and Reflection Part of The MATH R.U.L.E.S of Engagement September 28, 2015 Gwendolyn Best

Task #1- Use the base- ten blocks to model each problem. Task #2- Solve each problem using the area model. Task #3- Solve each problem using addition and multiplication. There are 12 months in each year. Four years is the same as _____ months?

Task #1- Use the base- ten blocks to model each problem. Task #2- Solve each problem using the area model. Task #3- Solve each problem two ways – addition & multiplication.

Task #1- Explain why answer choices F and G are incorrect. Task #2- Draw a set of circles and shade 4/10 of them. Draw another set of circles and shade 4/6 of them. Task #3- Complete Task #2 with concrete objects. Sit with students in a small group and have them use two- color counters to represent 4/10 and 4/6. Task #4- Shade in 6/4 of the figure shown below.

Task #1- Draw a picture to show the relationship between 6 x 4 = 24 and answer choice F. Task #2- Write a word problem that matches the number sentence 6 x 4 = 24. Write a different word problem that matches 24 ÷ 4 = 6

Task #1- Solve the problem. Task #2 Write a two-step word problem using the data in the table.

Use manipulatives to show me this problem as you explain it to me. Then write a number sentence to match the problem.

Task #1 Write 2 word problems using the data in the graph. Write 1 addition and 1 subtraction problem.
