7 th Grade Science What is 7 th Grade Science? An continuation of 6 th grade science, studying Earth’s Water and Atmosphere, Cells and Heredity, Forces and Motion

The Nature of Science This section includes learning or reviewing techniques to measure matter This section also includes learning or reviewing Communicating with Graphs This section also includes learning Safety Expectations.

Part I: Earth’s Water and Atmosphere Water cycle, landforms and weather Earth’s atmosphere Global environmental change Water and air movements, weather and climate

Part II: Life Science Types and components of cells Sexual and asexual production

Life Sciences con’t Genetic factors, environmental affects & growth Genetic reproduction and variation Inherited traits

Life Sciences (con’t) Cellular processes and how cells obtain materials How organisms obtain energy and materials for growth and metabolism

Part II: Physical Science Thermal energy transfer Kinetic energy and temperature Kinetic energy and the transfer of energy from one place to another.

Part IV: Engineering, Technology & Application of Science Design problems to study the impact on humans and the environment Evaluate design solutions that solve problems Analyze solutions Develop models and collect data to solve problems

What to expect Labs Some lecture Some HW Internet research Science Inquiry Lab assignments Assessments-Yep, gotta..

What to bring Materials (See syllabus) Good Work Ethic Integrity, honesty, effort Safe attitude Your body! On time!

Grades % = A 89-80% = B 79-70% = C 69-60% = D 80% Assessments 20% All other categories combined

So…… CLASSROOM ETIQUETTE-BE SAFE, RESEPCTFUL, RESPONSIBLE AT ALL TIMES! 1. Be Responsible by being here, on time, and having your materials daily! Be prepared to learn. Start and end in your assigned seat each day. Check the board and your calendar for tasks and due dates 2. Be Respectful of the rights of others and the computers/equipment you are using. 3. Be the best you can be! Do your own work; don’t “borrow” others’ work. 4. Obey Safety rules in the science classroom at all times.

So…(con’t) 5. No food or drink in the science classrooms. 6. ALL electronic gizmos need to be off and away, including ear buds. TURN THEM OFF AND HIDE THEM-UNLESS you are called to use them for an activity. 7. Swearing, discrimination, or any type of harassment will not be tolerated. 8.
