Retold by Noah Lieberman
Once upon a time there was a good king who ruled fairly and provided help to all who needed it
But his brother wanted the throne for himself so he murdered his brother and took over the kingdom
He wanted very much to kill the good kings wife and child perseus
But he knew he would get caught so he put them in a box and tossed it into the ocean
But the gods saw perseus and saved him so him and his mother landed safely on the island of Crete where they lived for many years until he was 18 and was deemed by the gods to be given a quest
They told Perseus to slay the monster Medusa the Gorgon who could turn people to stone just by looking at them.
Perseus was given a sword and a shield that was so shiny that it could be used as a mirror to turn medusa to stone
And Hermes gave him a pair of sandals with wings attached to them so he could fly to Medusas cave at the top of a tall rocky mountain
Perseus accepted the quest and said goodbye to his mother as he flew to Medusas Horrifying lair littered with the many of her victims turned into statues.
Perseus entered the fowl smelling cave and was immediately attacked by the monster Perseus closed his eyes and held up the shield and when he opened them medusa had stared herself to stone.
He returned home and was honored as a hero and lived happily ever after.
