Outline: Introduction Video Requirements of IWB Brand names of IWB Merits of IWB Limitations of IWB Conclusion

Due to the rapid spread of technology in the educational field, the world witnessed the advent of a new equipment that replaces the traditional whiteboards or flipcharts. It is the “Interactive Whiteboard” which we will focus on its benefits and limitations in the teaching-learning process.

Brand name of IWB: SMART Board Active Board

Poly Vision Mimio

Interwrite Numonics

Starboard eBeam

Merits of IWB: For Learners Provides high visual impact. Is highly motivating. Helps absorb information easily. Enables the annotation of texts. Allows the evaluation of peer’s work ( feedback). For Teachers Provides opportunities for creativity. Gives access to a broad range of multi-media resources. Saves information for later uses. Enables the annotation of texts. Increases the pace of a lesson. Enables them to have split screens for comparison.

Limitations of IWB: For Learners Front projection board can be obscured by users. Fixed-height boards can be placed too high or too low. The sunshine can reduce the visibility. For Educators Technical faults Lack of confidence Expensive and any fault will cost. Free-standing boards are more difficult to secure and need to be realigned every time they are moved.
