Reading Log Expectations

Front Side Completely fill out form Date range Date, title, author Time – Range not total – 5:30-6:00 NOT 30 minutes Pages – Range not total – 1-10 not 10pgs

Front Side NEED A PARENT SIGNATURE – Signature needs to be on the actual reading log you are turning in. Signed pieces of notebook paper, s, and phone calls won’t be accepted.

On the back 6-8 QUALITY sentences Should not be short and choppy. You’re not in 3 rd grade anymore Use a clear topic sentence, supporting details from the book, concluding statement Pay attention to: – Spelling and punctuation – Run-ons and fragments – This may be factored into your grade

On the back “You need to use examples and information from the book to explain your answer.” Need specific details Don’t be vague I should be able to tell you actually read the book

On the back Choose different topics for each written portion. If you don’t understand a prompt, ask for clarification or just don’t do that one If you feel none of the prompts applies to your reading, see me and we’ll come up with something else for you to write about

Sample of “Good writing” Prompt: How are you similar to and/or different from the main character? See Word Document

NO LONGER ACCEPTED AS THE LAST SENTENCE OF YOUR PARAGRAPH Anything along these lines: “And that is why I chose to answer prompt 1.” “That is why I like the main character so much.” “Those are the 3 things I would do if I were the main character.”

Misc Make sure you are turning in the correct reading log # My website has the entire trimester posted
