Check out my sample!  Hook: Without language, math and science would not exist.  Background Info: While many people today argue that math and science are just as important as literacy, they fail to recognize the fact that literacy must come before all other subjects. Without language, there can be no math or science.  Thesis Statement: Literacy is fundamentally more important than math and science because it facilitates the creative development of students, it stimulates critical thinking, and it allows students to expand their knowledge of other cultures.

Independent Practice Your Task  Finish the introductory paragraph worksheet.  Whisper to your partner.  Do not speak to people who are not your partner. My Task  I will meet with pairs to discuss power paragraph work and plans for finishing persuasive essays.  The entire class will earn 10 bonus points if I do not need to redirect students at any time.

Closing (Complete in Student Planners) Essay (100 pts.)  When is your essay due?  How will you make sure you receive as many points as you possibly can?  When will you work on completing your essay? 9 Weeks Exam (100 pts.)  How much will you write?  How long will you have to write it?  What must you include in each paragraph?

Test Prep: We have a Test Tomorrow!  Tomorrow, we will have to write a full, 5- paragraph essay in 45 minutes.  That means we will write a full introductory paragraph, three body power paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph! In 45 minutes!  Alright, kiddos, it’s practice time.

Test Prep Activity  Around the room, you will see posted six writing prompts. Some will look familiar. Some will not.  We will use these prompts to practice writing thesis statements and introductory paragraphs as quickly as we possibly can.

Test Prep Activity  In pairs or groups of three, you will move from prompt to prompt, developing introductory paragraphs.  You will have eight minutes at each station to 1. read the prompt 2. develop your thesis statement 3. write your introductory paragraph.  The group who satisfactorily completes the most introductory paragraphs during the course of the class period will win a prize!
