Poseidon Greek Name-- Poseidon Roman Name-- Neptune, Neptunus Parents-- Kronos and Rhea Sphere of Influence-- God of seas, rivers, flood and drought, earthquakes, and horses Attributes-- the dolphin, the horse, or the trident Birthplace-- The Island of Crete along with his other siblings Favorite City-- Athens, for he had a competition with Athena over the dominion of Athens

Poseidon (cont.) In this image, Poseidon looks very godly in the way he dresses. You can't tell much since the picture is cut, however you can infer he is talking to someone or holding out something in the way his body is positioned and the way his arm is held out. Also, Poseidon seems very calm in his facial expression. This image spoke to me because it was made so well that it was able to remain visible and you can still see the intricate detail, like in his eye and his face in general. In addition, I liked the contrast in colors in Poseidon and the background (Poseidon being a yellow-orangeish color while the background a blue- green color). In short, I think this is a well-done picture of Poseidon. This part of vase depicts Poseidon (cut) created first half of the 5th century BCE

Poseidon (cont.) This sculpture of Poseidon shows his wise-ness and it looks like he is underwater due to the fact that his beard and hair looks like its flowing calmly. Also, he looks worn out and aged, therefore very wise. I think this piece of art, by far, is my favorite. Why? The detail is breath taking. Poseidon’s hair and his beard is sculpted so carefully you can sense the flow in it. His facial expressions, too, was sculpted in so well. The wrinkles and the bags under the eyes; you can read his face easily. So when I first got a glimpse of this image, I HAD to use it for this project. This sculpture is called “Detail of Neptune” created by Lambert-Sigisbert Adam, ca. 1725
