Investigating place – a template. This resource was developed as a stimulus and structure for exploring place through maps and photographs. All of the images were obtained by the teacher by searching for maps and photographs using a search engine such as Google. The images were copied and pasted from the Internet into this PowerPoint.

Where is this place? Insert image here. General image including clues to suggest location, e.g. beach, mountain in distance etc.

Where is (name of place)? Insert image of large-scale map showing location of place and other key settlements.

What can we learn about (name of place) from maps? Insert image of map of place. Insert additional slides, each displaying a different type and scale of map.

Which map would you use to...? Display smaller versions of the maps used on previous slides. Discuss the different purposes of the maps.
