Teaching a Technology- Enriched Science Investigation Unit Using MultiLab Software with the pH Probe iLearn Science Session 4

Focusing Questions How do I install the MultiLab software and connect the MultiLogPRO data logger to the computer? How can I use the MultiLogPro data logger and MultiLab software to visualize and measure how baking soda affects the pH levels of a liquid solution?

Instruction

Framing the Session During this session we will learn how to use the MultiLab software. This software allows us to: >collect and analyze a larger sample of data over a period of time easily. >see the data being collected and graphed simultaneously. >share and compare two sources of data.

Teaching Follow these instructions for installation: Close all programs. Insert the CD labeled “MultiLab” into your CD-ROM drive. Installation will begin automatically. Follow the on-screen instructions to continue. Click “Next” to start the installation. Follow the on-screen instructions. In the “Customer Information” dialog, make sure the “Install for all Users” option is selected. Restart your computer.

Guided Practice The MultiLab icon will appear on your screen after you have installed the software: Setting up the MultiLog to measure pH

Guided Practice Step 1: Connect your MultiLogPRO to your computer using the USB cable. Step 2: Set up the MultiLogPRO to take pH of distilled water. (Use MultiLab software to run the experiment.) Step 3: Measure the pH of acid solution. Step 4: Rinse the pH probe. Step 5: Measure the pH of the water while adding the acid solution.

Work Time

Getting Started Review the key parts of the MultiLab software: Runner: Starts the experiment Stop: Ends data collection Different ways of viewing the charts

Work Time Practice using MultiLab software to take and record readings. If time permits, collect another reading using the basic solution.
