Adjectives An adjective is a word used to modify a noun or a pronoun.

An adjective modifies a noun or pronoun by giving a descriptive or specific detail. An adjective answers the question what kind, which one, how many, or how much about the words they modify. – Those are the fast ponies. (What Kind) – This seat is taken. (Which One) – Both teams played their best. (How Many) – His class makes more noise than mine. (How Much) Adjectives can also show comparisons. – cold winter colder winter coldest winter

Most adjectives will fit this sentence: – The _________ one looks very _________. The articles a, an, and the are the most common adjectives. – Articles do not meet the above test for adjectives. A proper adjective is formed from a proper noun and begins with a capital letter. – Marijka wore a Ukrainian costume. – He was a Danish prince.
