4 Jude 1:17-19 Remembering what was spoken before hand 17 But you, beloved, ought to remember the words that were spoken beforehand by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, 18 that they were saying to you, "In the last time there will be mockers, following after their own ungodly lusts." 19 These are the ones who cause divisions, worldly- minded, devoid of the Spirit.

5 17 But you, beloved, ought to remember the words that were spoken beforehand by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, You (beloved) remember note - this is first instruction mentioned in Jude ! remember - mnaomai - to recall to one's mind, to remember, be mindful, recollect – imperative ! ought to remember - to bring out the imperative the word is a derivative of “meno” the word for abide see Matt 26:75 and Acts 11:16

7 17 But you, beloved, ought to remember the words that were spoken beforehand by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, the words - rhēma - that which is said, a word; in Jude and Peter a prediction, prophecy or sayings foretold see Rom 10:18, 2 Cor 12:4, 2 Peter 3:2 that were spoken beforehand lit: having been previously spoken - proeirō - to say before, foretell, speak of in advance (perfect tense) spoken by Peter – 2 Peter 2:1- 21 spoken by Paul – 2 Tim 3:1-4 and 4:3

8 18 that they were saying to you, "In the last time there will be mockers, following after their own ungodly lusts." Who is the “they” in verse 18 ? What is meant by the last times ? The "last time" refers to the end of the historical period that encompasses the church age and the Tribulation- Constable see Heb 1:2, 2 Tim 3:1 mockers - empaiktēs - mocker, scoffer, spoken of impostors, false prophets see 2 Peter 2:3 and in the verb form Matt. 20:19

10 19 These are the ones who cause divisions, worldly-minded, devoid of the Spirit. These (mockers/false teachers) are the one who note they have 3 characteristics ! causing divisions - to separate from or cause divisions among worldly-minded (lit: natural men) - psychikos - "belonging to the psychē, soul" (as the lower part of the immaterial in man), "natural, physical," describes the man in Adam and what pertains to him (set in contrast to pneumatikos, "spiritual");Vine see 1 Cor 2:14-15 and 3:1-3 (3 kinds of men in Scripture) devoid of the Spirit (pneuma) – lit: not having the Spirit (present tense)
