Remember to write the objective in your agenda and have it out for Mrs. Weiss to check! REVIEW OF LAST WEEK 1. Write 1 thing you remember about someone in the class from the Getting to Know You worksheet. (It can be about Mrs. Weiss if you’d like.) 2. Write 1 reason we discussed about why college is important. 3. Write 1 reason why studying math is important. 4. Share your answers with your partner and be prepared to share your answers with the class. SENTENCE FRAMES: 1 thing I remember about someone in class is ______________________________________________ College is important because __________________ Studying math is important because _____________

Did you know $30 of raw popcorn translates into $3,000 in sales at movie theaters?

1. Natural Numbers: counting numbers except for 0 (1,2,3,…) 2. Whole Numbers: 0 and the Natural Numbers 3. Integers: 0, Natural Numbers and their opposites (…-3, -2, -1, 0, 1,2,3…) 4. Rational Numbers: Numbers that can be written as fractions or ratios 5. Irrational Numbers: Numbers that can’t be written in fraction form. (pi, √2) 6. Real Numbers: All of these numbers!!

MIRROR DRILL 1. Stand up and face your partner. 2. Hold your palms up in front of your chest. 3. The partner with the birthday coming up first will be the leader first. 4. The leader will move their hands one at a time and the follower will mirror the movement. 5. After 1 minute, switch leaders.

1. What factors would we need to know to help us determine the buildings we need and how many of those buildings we need? 2. Where will people work? What types of industries will the town have? 3. What buildings are necessary?

4. Do we need more than 1 grocery store? 5. Are there some options that we could combine? 6. Which buildings should go up first? 7. Should something like a nail salon go up the first year? 8. What services should support people who move there? 9. What services should support people who commute there?

10. Will towns grow? 11. What factors influence growth? 12. What reasons would there be for a town not to grow? 13. What would happen to a town if a major employer decides to leave the town? 14. How will we have to accommodate an increase in population over time? 15. What happens to the amount of available land we have? 16. How does that affect the price of the available land?

Think about the location of the buildings: 1. Should a grocer store be built on the outskirts of town? 2. Should an elementary school be built next to a jail? 3. Should a library be built near a school? 4. Should you have 4 grocery stores right next to each other? 5. Should a school be built on the other end of town from the residential areas? 6. Should a mall be built in a sparsely populated area? 7. Should a park be built next to a neighborhood?
