History Used to be a fortress back in 1190 made for the king to protect the capital from the Anglo Norman threat. The Louvre ceased to be the main royal residence in In 1692 the building was occupied by the Academie des inscrptions et Belles Lettres and the Academie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture. During the French Revolution, the national assembly declared that the Louvre shall be used as a museum to hold all the history that it has been through and display the masterpieces.

Facts The Louvre has more than 9.7 million visitors each year leaving it known as the worlds most visited museum. The museum opened on the 10 th of August Louvre contains more than 380,000 objects and displays 35,000 works of art One of the worlds largest museums Surrounding the museums pyramid are many fine, beautiful gardens to walk around and wander on the artistic journey it has to offer.
