What are the units about? Core unit 1: Construction Technology Covers the different forms of construction that can be used in low rise offices, retail units and homes. Learners will develop an understanding of the structural performance required for low rise construction and explore how substructures are constructed. – Exam You must gain at least a level 1 pass to pass the course overall. Core unit 2: Construction and design Develop a broad understanding of the construction industry, the sort of projects it undertakes and contribution it makes to wider society. Learners will look at how client needs can shape the design of a building and develop their own ideas to a given brief. – Internally assessed

What are the units about? Mandatory unit 1: Scientific and mathematical applications for construction Learners will apply scientific and mathematical knowledge, understanding and skills to practical construction contexts. Learners will develop an understanding of the scientific principles affecting the performance of construction materials and develop skills to perform mathematical calculations in construction contexts. - Internally assessed

What are the units about? Mandatory unit 2: Sustainability in construction Learners develop a broader understanding of the important topic of sustainability and how construction can have an impact on the environment. They will also examine techniques that can be used within construction projects to reduce the impact on the environment and improve the long-term sustainability of a project. - Internally assessed

Specialist units These units are subject specific and include both theory and practical elements. Learners must show a detailed knowledge of tools, equipment, processes and techniques together with an understanding of health and safety practices. A high level of English is required including extended paragraphs of explanation and justification of why tools and processes are used and how this is relevant to the construction tasks being done. Assessment takes place in controlled exam conditions this includes practical work. Extended learning is compulsory and is the research needed for you to successfully complete the controlled assessments. This is credited towards your final grade. You have four units to complete. One exam and three theory portfolio’s including a practical unit. There is no time to waste and our expectations are high. The exam is challenging and there is a lot to learn. Our expectation is that you will be working hard at home using the materials posted online to study and prepare for this examination.
