Chapter 6 Section 1 Ghana’s Decline Pages

Intro In the last chapter, we learned about the growth of trade, and how Ghana builds it’s empire. Now we will learn about the fall and the reasons why it fell.

Summary In 1060 the Almoravids (a group of Muslims) attacked Ghana. The Almoravids had blocked all of the trading routes, so Ghana started to lose it’s wealth. Then, the invaders brought their animals who ate all of the grass, and when the wind kicked up it blew all of the dirt away, so the people of Ghana couldn’t feed their cattle. But nearly 140 years later, in 1200, the citizens of Ghana rebelled. They won! But it collapsed later that year
