A Few Introductory Facts Christianity developed during the time of the life of Jesus Christ. It is a monotheistic religion (belief in one God). Christianity is the major religion in Europe and the entire Western Hemisphere (all of the Americas).

FOLLOWERS OF CHRISTIANITY Followers of Christianity are called Christians. There 1.4 billion followers. Christianity is divided into many individual denominations such as Eastern Churches, Roman Catholics, and Protestants. The Roman Catholic Church is the largest denomination.

GOD OF CHRISTIANITY Christians believe in the same God that Jews worship. Christians believe that God sent His Son, Jesus, to save people from their sins and give them eternal life. Christians believe Jesus is the Messiah.

SACRED BOOK OF CHRISTIANITY The most sacred book of Christianity is the Bible. It is divided into the Old and New Testaments. OT: describes life before Jesus’ birth. NT: describes Jesus’ life and teachings, the early church, and what faith in Jesus means

CHRISTIAN HOUSE OF WORSHIP The Christian house of worship is called a church. Most Christian denominations hold worship services on Sundays. It is the first day of the week and the day Jesus arose from the dead.

EARLY CHRISTIAN MISSIONARIES Paul Spread Christianity to Egypt, Greece, Italy, and beyond. Many letters he wrote to churches are part of the New Testament. Peter He was one of Jesus’ 12 Apostles Preacher in the early Christian church
