Plasma is one of the four fundamental states of matter (the others being solid, liquid, and gas). When air or gas is ionized, plasma forms with similar conductive properties to that of metals. Plasma is the most abundant form of matter in the Universe, because most stars are in a plasma state.the four fundamental states of mattersolidliquidgasionized

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION What is Physics? Physics is a branch of science that involves the study of the physical world: energy, matter, and how they are related. Physicists investigate the motions of electrons and rockets, the energy in sound waves and electric circuits, the structure of the proton and of the universe. The goal of this course is to help you understand the physical world.
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION Careers Physics People who study physics go on to many different careers. Some become scientists at universities and colleges, at industries, or in research institutes. Others go into related fields, such as astronomy, engineering, computer teaching, or medicine. Problem solving skills in physics to work in business, finance, or other very different disciplines.
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION Why study Physics? 1.Physics is one of the most fundamental of the sciences. Scientist of all disciplines make use of the ideas of physics, from chemist who study the structure of molecules to paleontologists who try to reconstruct how dinosaurs walked.
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION Why study Physics? 2.Physics is also foundation of all engineering and technology. No engineer could design any kind of practical device without first understanding the basic principles involved.
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION Why study Physics? 3. Study of Physics is an adventure! You will find Physics; Challenging Sometimes frustrating Occasionally painful Often richly rewarding and satisfying!
Mechanics – is the study of motion of objects and the forces that cause them. The principle of mechanics are applied in building machines and constructing structures such as bridges, dams, and high – rise condominiums. Thermodynamics – is the study of the effects of changes in temperature on physical system. It is applied in power generation, air conditioning, and chemical reactions. Acoustics – is the generation, transmission, and reception of sound. Studies on behavior of sound in concert halls and auditoriums, belong to the field of acoustics. Branches and Sub- branches DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Optics – is concerned with the study of light and its interaction with matter. Design of optical devices like lenses and lasers requires understanding of optical phenomena. Electromagnetism – is the physics of electricity and magnetism. It s useful applications include the CT scan machine and electric motors. Condensed Matter Physics – studies the physical behavior of solids and liquids, including such phenomena as the elctrical conductivity in crystal structures. Geophysics – is the physics of earth and environment. It covers the physical sciences such as meteorology, oceanography, and seismology. Branches and Sub- branches DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Modern of Physics – refer the physical knowledge obtained in the first half of the 20th century. a. Particle or high energy physics – is concerned with the properties of sub microscopic particles. b. Nuclear Physics – is the study of properties of atomic nuclei. c. Atomic and molecular physics- deals with the behavior of few atoms and molecules, particularly the ways in which they interact with light. d. Astrophysics – deals with the study of physical and chemical properties of celestial objects such as stars and galaxies. Branches and Sub- branches DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Physics is an experimental science. Physicists observe the phenomena of nature and try to find patterns and principles that relate this phenomena. NatureOfPhysics DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
