The plan: Video clip of the day Mini-force diagram ICA Science fair project

Instructions: Use a blank piece of paper. Instead of your name: –Put a random set of letters & numbers as your name. (At least 8 characters.) –Right this set down on a separate sheet of paper so you do NOT forget. –Do not Tell any one what your new name is. –This should not be a pin to a bank card or FB password.

Example: 123fakename D#%qiLawesome Some_thing_reasonable!

Instructions: Create the force diagrams on the sheet of paper. There are 4 diagrams. Each diagram should use a ½ page when everything is listed properly. You will exchange diagrams with someone else in your class once all have been completed. Include everything necessary for a complete force diagram. (hint: Assumptions, forces, labels)

Situations 1 of 4 1) I am driving on a level surface when I jam my brakes in my 2000kg car. My car is not stopped, but it is coming to a stop. The surface and tires have a coefficient of friction of 0.5.

Situations 2 of 4 2) A 2kg brick is being pushed across a level surface at a constant velocity of 4 m/s [W].

Situations 3 of 4 3) A 4kg object is thrown off a cliff on the moon at the angle of 45 degrees from the horizontal.

Situations 4 of 4 4) An 50kg person is accelerating upwards on an elevator at 1.5m/s 2.

Exchange Diagrams Have your neighbour examine your diagram. –Questions to consider. Does the diagram includes all of the necessary pieces? Does the diagram clearly indicate what is going on? Could you use this diagram to create the circuit above given the components in a lab?

Corrections: 5 possible marks per question 1 pts – Title for graph “Car stopping Diagram” 1 pts – Cartesian plane is set up. 1 pts – All forces an angles are on diagram 1 pts – Assumptions are made 1 pts - Additional informational indicated in diagram. (mass, coefficients etc…)

Before returning force diagrams: Place your new name on the sheet of paper on the back page. A mark out of 20  ____ / 20 Next 5 to 10 minutes: Write down CONSTRUCTIVE hints to help out the mystery classmate.
