Background  After world war II the United Nations was formed because of the failing organization of peace in fragile post-war world. The united nations was formed to work toward international security, human rights and world peace.

Purpose  The mission statement of the united nations is basically saying that they will support all international cooperation's so they can grow. They will help governments with their agendas and decision making with their problems and complaints they will provide monitoring progress towards agreed goals internationally

Leadership  The united nations is located on the East of Manhattan.  The current secretary-General of the united nations is Ban Ki-Moon. He is the eighth secretary. “ I am determined to see this organization deliver tangible, meaningful results that advance peace development and human rights” Ki-Moon.

General Assembly  The General assembly is a policy making and representative organ. They discus about the international problems. They meet up from September-December. A country only gets one vote each. The general assembly makes decisions depending on the charter of the united nations. They may discus any questions relating to international peace and security. If the problem is being discussed by the security council and make recommendations

Security council  Five countries sit on the security council they are Russia, China, United Kingdom, united States and France.  The security council is the first to know about a complaint about disruption of the peace. They find away to agree on one thing witch is peace. When the fight starts they find away to stop it as soon as possible. Some times military action had to take place to make sure the decisions was followed.

International court of justice  The international court of justice is located at the Hague, Netherlands.  An example of what the cases they do is 2011 construction of a road in Costa Rica.

World Health Organization  The world health organization is healed at many different countries. The headquarters is in Geneva, Switzerland.  The World Health Organization is a team that is sent to parts of the world that have sudden out brakes, like people that are affected by disasters and killer diseases for an example HIV/AIDS.

UNICEF  UNICEF is the united Nations Children Fund. This was created to provide emergency food and health care to the children that has been hurt by the war.

Summary  The United Nations made some actions to help not to have another war start again by helping governments with their decisions about keeping the peace. The current secretary general ban ki-moon wanted the Iraqis to come together. Another way is when the general assembly gave an award to individuals for outstanding contributions to population concerns and their solutions.  I would say that the Security Council has more power than the General Assembly because they have the power to stop anything that looks like a war or anything that the country might not agreed on. They also have power to send in a military base to where the problem is growing.  My over all thoughts about the United Nations is that I like that they want to make sure that the peace is kept in the world, but it really is not that effective because the problems the united states have with Korea is not being solved because china vetoed what we want to do
