By Katy Williams.

I am going to talk about learning apps and the advantages and disadvantages of learning apps. I an also going to show you the reviews and features.  The first one I am going to talk about is babble, where you learn different languages.

 What is a learning App?  A learning app is an app that teaches a range of ages in the safety of their home or out and about.  What app are you going to discuss?  In am going to discuss the learning app Babble.  What category does it fall under (augmented reality, navigation, to give information etc)  It is an app that gives information.

The advantages of getting a learning apps is that they are normally free you can get basic and advanced vocabulary at home and on- the-go: there are many different things you can use it to study vocabulary with interactive exercises, it would deepen your knowledge and practice your pronunciation...Here are some things that are found on the babble website… ★ 3000 vocabulary words with images, pronunciation and sentence examples* ★ Intelligent review manager ★ Integrated speech recognition for pronunciation exercises ★ Offline mode ★ Basic and Advanced Vocabulary: French ★ Vocabulary trainer for beginners and advanced learners ★ Numerous themes ★ Free app ★ Optimized for tablets

 There are very few disadvantages of the learning apps. I think that the size of the gadget is also a disadvantage. The fact that if you have lets say you are using a phone, the screen is so small and they can be easily lost or stolen.  Moreover, the essential part phone is the screen it is small and it can strain the eyes of those who use it for a long period of time.  On a screen that is that small, it can only holds a small amount of information that can be displayed.  The battery life is also an issue with transportable devices such as tablets or phones. As an example most gadgets in this generation have only a few hours of productivity. Once the battery runs out, the student will have to plug it in for recharging. Mobile learning is then no longer mobile.

Babble features of that babble gives… The mobile vocabulary trainer… Make the most out of travel and waiting time : with babble mobile you can study vocabulary even on your smartphone or tablet. Speech recognition and basic and advance vocabularies. Interactive: the babble apps contain vocabulary words per language. All words are accompanied by images for you by native language speakers. Speech recognition: with the speech recognition you can practice your pronunciation and make significant progress. Review manager: babble gathers the words and phrases that you’ve studied and then presents them back to you for review at optimal intervals. What you’ve learned automatically embeds itself in your long term memory…

 Before you begin you have to go through a couple of questions, what stage are you at; beginner or advance. And then it askes you your age( or the nearest age you are). This will help them to see what and where you need to begin- what levels and how hard the questions are go be.

A real life picture, gives you a real life situation ( you can relate to it. Multiple choice- make you think about the answer Bright colours- friendly and enthusiastic A language you can understand – then choose the what you think the right answer is in the other language

You can have your own account, this will be helpful if you are a regular user. You know if it is right answer if it flashes green. You get different levels- gets harder- you can challenge yourself… If you click on the pic if has someone reads it out this helps if you cant read properly or need to hear the accent.

From the last two slide you can see that for this app you will require speakers, internet access, room to download files. It doesn’t matter if you dont have a camera on your tablet or phone. On online, on your computer, mobile :There are multiple ways to use babble so you can learn on the go or in your in between time. First, babble.com is a multimeadia website that can be accessed from any computer with internet. Then with babble mobile, you can learn anywhere on your iPhone, ipad or i-pad touch.

 Uses the internet to get information to show you the route to your destination  Shows you the reviews for the place that you want to go, as an example, hotel reviews, flights, ratings opening times, closing times, numbers to call, contact details, costs of your travel or destination.  Gprs- so it knows where you are or the place is  It has a swipe screen – for easy and quick use

Shows where you are if you are lost. Loads of different choices – depending what you want. Uses popular icons for people that might not read very well.
