STI/STD Definition  A infection that is passed on from one person to another person during sex. Some can be passed on through skin to skin genital contact and others through body fluids.  It is important to treat them as soon as possible and not to spread them.

Types of STI’s & STD’s  3 Groups: 1. Viral 2.Bacterial 3. Parasites/Fungal

Viral: (incurable) passed by skin to skin contact & body fluids.  HPV (Human Papilloma Virus)  Vaccine to prevent spread.  Genital Herpes  Treated with medicine.  Hepatitis B  affects liver and spread through sharing of needles, too.  HIV/AIDS  Affects immune system.

Bacteria  Chlamydia  Gonorrhea  Syphilis Can be cured with antibiotics, but can lead to sterility if not treated. Prevention is testing.
