Thanksgiving

The origin of Thanksgiving The pilgrims left England on board the ship called the Mayflower on September 6 th and arrived in the new world on November 11 th, They landed in the Massachusetts Bay area where Native americans called Wampanoag already lived. They shared their knowledge of local crops and navigation, and helped the colonists survive. The first thanksgiving took place in autumn of The Pilgrims and the Native americans celebrated it. They celebrated the colony's first successful harvest.

It's bigger holiday than Christmas. All Americans try to get home for Thanksgiving. The fist thanksgiving took place in The pilgrims wanted to thank the native Americans for helping them hunt for food, grow vegetables, cure illness with plants and build houses. In a typical Thanksgiving dinner there is : roast turkey with stuffing, served with cranberry sauce. The vegetables are sweet or mashed potatoes, celery stick, creamed onion and corn. For dessert they usually have a pumpkim pie.

The presidential pardon Every year, the president of the USA saves the life of a white turkey. The ceremony is called the presidential pardon.

American football American football is not the same as the soccer because : first it is more dangerous and more violent ; then the ball is like a rugby ball ; and the players have to wear helmets and pads to protect their shoulders. The last difference is that in soccer it is forbidden to touch the ball with your hands.

Macy's Thanksgiving paradeMacy's Thanksgiving parade Americans can also watch Macy's Thanksgiving parade on TV. Macy's is a department store. The parade takes place in New York City. The are floats, marching bands and larger- than-life balloons.
