CH. 3 Theories on the Origin of Life

Evolutionist Perspective:

Creationist Perspective:

Marine Lifestyles Plankton (Greek planktos- wanderer): group of plants and animals that exist adrift in ocean currents. Nekton (Greek nekton- swimming): organisms that swim, from small invertebrates to large whales. Majority of nekton are vertebrates. Benthos- organisms that live on or in the bottom. Can move about or be sessile (attached like barnacles and anemones)

Neuston Subgroups of plankton Comes from the Greek term neustos meaning simming Neuston are the plankton that float on the sea such as Portuguese Man-of-War

Epifauna, Epiflora, and Infauna Epifauna (fauna comes from faun, a class of Roman mythological deities that are part human and part animal). Live on sea floor, i.e. crabs Epiflora (Latin flora, Roman goddess of flowers). Plants that live on seaflore, i.e. seagrass Infauna- partially or completely buried in the seaflore, i.e. clams, sea dollars, tubeworms, etc.
