 If students are exchanging papers, they are usually not the best quality and the citations are not recent.  Some students buy papers. So if you get a well written paper, give out an in class assignment and compare the quality.  If you have an assignment that you do every academic year, keep paper from previous years and compare them.  Some students may shorten a quote or beef it up.  Do not assume that students know what plagiarism is.  Talk to students about citations, quotes, and paraphrasing.  Discuss why plagiarism is wrong and how they can prevent from doing it.  Give them a list of consequences if they decide to plagiarize.  Provide examples of situations where students have been caught plagiarizing.  By citing a source, it strengthens their writing skills.  The research that they found, they can turn it into their own argument.  Quoting adds to your paper and can result in a better grade.  Also by citing, it shows that a student has respect for other peoples ideas and viewpoints.  By educating yourself about plagiarism, will help you educated your students about it.  By educating your students about plagiarism will help them do their own work and earn the grade they deserve.  By explaining the benefits of citing will also give the student confidence to write their own papers and to not be afraid of using someone else’s work. Curbing Cheating In this article, its talking about how cheating has become a major problems in high school & in college. It goes on to say is there really a problem with cheating. In a survey they did in 22 public schools, 74% of juniors and seniors said they have seen cheating in the previous year. Agreement  I agree with the article because I believe that to keep a student from plagiarizing, if they submit a paper, it shows if there are any matching parts to papers already in the system.  I also agree with the fact that the English teacher, Keith D.
