Welcome to Integrated Science Jerusha Vogel

I graduated from Boston University in 1991 with a BA in Chemistry and earned my masters in education the following year. I taught Chemistry in MA for 11 years before moving to CT seven years ago. About Me

Survival

Essential Questions and Concepts: What do we need to survive? How does a study of energy transformations affect my survival? Different types of Energy Combustion Reactions C x H y + O 2  CO 2 + H 2 O Specific Heat and calories q=cmΔT Water sanitation Electromagnetic Spectrum

Human Performance

Essential Questions and Concepts: Are you what you eat? What makes you stronger, faster, or fitter? Electrolytes Atoms, elements, the Periodic Table Metals and non metals Electrical Circuits Types of bonds between atoms Polymers

Space

Essential Questions and Concepts: Why Earth? (What is special about Earth that allows for life?) How can we survive in space? Should we explore space? Scale of the universe Earth’s biosphere pH and acid rain The greenhouse effect

Sustainability

Essential Questions and Concepts: What will be the fate of Greenwich in my lifetime? What does my community need to prosper sustainably? In what ways might technological innovations counter or contribute to critical issues facing our community? Renewable and non renewable resources Environmental Law World population and carbon footprints

This course was designed around the new national standards to teach students 21 st century skills while at the same time making sure they have fun learning them. The honors option gives the opportunity for students to explore further and delve deeper.
