Social Media-- What is it?  Changing! ---let’s watch a video …    A social network service focuses on building and reflecting of social networks or social relations among people, e.g., who share interests and/or activities.social networkssocial relations  The main types of social networking services are those which contain category places (such as former school-year or classmates), means to connect with friends (usually with self-description pages) and a recommendation system linked to trust. * *

Why?  Share pictures with faraway relatives.  Keep up-to-date with social trends, business information and news.  Get information and real-time, location based information via mobile phone.  It is one way for people to connect not only with people from the past or present, but also as a way to connect with people with similar interests, hobbies and to interact and socialize.  The number of teenagers on social networking sites has skyrocketed in the past few years, as has the number of Retirees!

One at a time- …  Facebook is the world’s largest social network, with over 500 million users.  Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg in February 2004, initially as an exclusive network for Harvard students.Mark Zuckerberg  Long gone were the days of Facebook as a social network for college students. 11% of users are over the age of 35, and the fastest growing demographic is users over 30. Facebook users’ passion, or addiction, to the site is unparalleled: more than half use the product every single day and users spend an average of 19 minutes a day on Facebook. YouTube allows people to easily upload and share video clips across the Internet through websites, mobile devices, blogs, and .  Everyone can watch videos on YouTube. People can see first-hand accounts of current events, find videos about their hobbies and interests, and discover the quirky and unusual. As more people capture special moments on video, YouTube is empowering them to become the broadcasters of tomorrow. ¤ ¤

LinkedIn  With over 100 million users representing over 200 countries around the world, LinkedIn is a fast- growing professional networking site that allows members to create business contacts, search for jobs, and find potential clients. Individuals have the ability to create their own professional profile that can be viewed by others in their network, and also view the profiles of their own contacts.  Competitors to LinkedIn include sites such as XING, Doostang andEcademy.
