After Amir weds Soraya in her home, she moves in with Amir and Baba as she focuses on taking care of Baba. One night, Baba peacefully dies in his sleep. He has a funeral and all the people he’s helped over the years arrive. Amir learns more about Soraya’s family and her dark past. At the end of the chapter, there is a sadness as Amir realizes it will be nearly impossible to have children.

Fatherhood Amir wishes to be a father. Throughout the book, fatherhood is a prominent relationship factor as it explains the connection between many main characters.

“The idea of fatherhood unleashed a swirl of emotions in me. I found it frightening, invigorating, daunting, and exhilarating all at the same time. What sort of father would I make, I wondered. I wanted to be just like Baba and I wanted to be nothing like him” (Hosseini 184).
