Lab Only Visits LAB for Non-Laboratorians Resource Patient Management System

Session Objectives Set up a Lab only clinic in PIMS Check patient into Lab Clinic Select Lab only visit in EHR Create a Lab only visit. Look up previous orders Select a Purpose of Visit (POV).

Patient check in to Lab Clinic Create lab clinic in PIMS. On Page 4 set “Create visit at check in” to “YES”. The Ordering provider is ordering provider on lab order. Encounter provider is lab person drawing the labs.

Patient check in to Lab Clinic (cont.) Check the patient into scheduling package as a “Walk-In Unscheduled Visit”. The Phlebotomist selects the Laboratory visit in EHR when patient presents to laboratory

Lab will select Lab visit in EHR

Lab Only visit by Laboratory Staff A lab visit may be created in the EHR by the Laboratory staff as an alternate way to enter a visit. The laboratory technician will be the visit provider, if the patient does not see a primary care provider at this visit. The ordering provider will be the provider for any orders placed for the patient.

To Create Lab Only Visit – Look up Previous Visit, 3. Find the lab order and date of order. Use this information to create a new lab only visit. 2. Select a visit, and open orders tab. Locate date of order 1. Select Patient

Create Lab Only Visit 1. Select Patient 2. Click on Visit box, and select New visit 3. Select Lab only visit location. 5. Select OK 4. Encounter provider will be the tech providing service to the patient.

Create Lab Only Visit (cont.) In the lab only visit, go to the POV tab and select the POV entered by the provider in the original lab order. The lab examination code should also appear. If not you may need to select it from the ICD pick list.

Create Lab Only Visit (cont.) Depending on your facility, you may be requested to select the method of blood collection for billing. Select veinipuncture or capillary.
