Mrs. Dill’s First Grade class Welcome, parents!

My background: I grew up in Cobb County, Georgia. I attended Pebblebrook High and graduated from Reinhardt University. My experience: This is my 18 th year at Johnston Elementary School. This is my 7 th year teaching first grade.

For each child:  to work to their potential  to achieve or maintain a positive self worth  to leave 1 st grade with improved reading, writing, and math skills  to respect one another

 Routinely reading with your child every night is extremely important. 20 minutes a each night is recommended.  Help you child with their homework.  Review all papers that come home. If they missed problems go over them.

Children should arrive at school between 7:05AM and 7:45AM. It is best to send excuses in the day the student returns to school. Because of bookkeeping, all excused absences should be sent within five school days of the student’s return to school. Excuses should contain the student’s name, reason for absence, date(s) of the absence, and the parent’s or guardian’s signature. All absences will be unexcused until we receive a written excuse.

Students riding a school bus are never marked tardy! Absences and Tardies effect AYP (Annual Yearly Progress), If your child is a car rider in the morning and eats breakfast, they need to be here by 7:30.

7:30 – 8:00: Morning Jobs/Morning Work 8:00 – 9:45: Math 9:25 – 9:40 Snack/bathroom 9:40 – 10:30: Specials 10:30 – 10:56: ELA 10:56 – 11:26: Lunch 11: :35: ELA 12:20 – 12:40: Recess 12:40 - 1:40: Reading 1:40 – 2:10: Science/Social Studies 2:15: Dismissal

 If you would like to send in a special treat for your child’s birthday, please send individual servings. We typically take these with us to enjoy at lunchtime. We currently have 19 students.  Please do not send birthday invitations to be passed out at school unless everyone in the class is invited or only all boys or only all girls.  We have a winter party and an end of the year party. For all other holidays we will just have a special snack.

 Your child’s Daily Folder is the link between school and home. Please check it daily for information, graded papers, and your child’s behavior color.  In turn, I will check your child’s folder first thing each morning. If you send in any notes (especially transportation) or money PLEASE make sure they are in the Daily Folder.  I WILL check the folder daily. However, I do not check backpacks.
