Internet Safety Mrs. Blue 4 th -5 th Grade

Why do I need to learn about internet safety? Even though you can’t always see it, there are dangers that can exist on the internet! Follow along with this presentation to learn some things to be careful of when online.

1. Listen to your parents Make sure your parents know when you are online. Do not go to sites that your parents told you not to.

Show your parents all of the cool things you are learning to do online! Play online games with mom and dad

2. Personal Information Sometimes, people on the internet don’t have good intentions. It is important that you don’t share personal information with a stranger online!

Never give out personal information such as: – Your real name – Your address – Your telephone number – Your school

Never meet with someone that you met online unless you have permission. Bring an adult with you if you want to meet a cyber pal!

Always tell an adult if someone online is being inappropriate or making you uncomfortable. Never feel scared or embarrassed to tell.

3. Cyber-bullying Do not post rude or inappropriate comments about other people online. Remember, anyone can see anything you post!

If you see something online that upsets you, talk to an adult about it. Do not respond to any mean s or posts, and tell a parent or teacher as soon as possible.

Never post pictures of yourself online without permission. Do not post pictures of other people without their permission either.

If your parents give you permission to join a social networking site: – Have them help you set up the privacy. – Give them access to your account.

4. Copyright Do not take someone else’s words, pictures or thoughts without their permission. You must give people credit for their ideas.

You cannot use or download music without the artist’s permission. Use a program like itunes to legally download music.

What have you learned? Write things you can do to stay safe online! Try this game: bin/kidskashgames/isg/kc_teen_safety. pl
