MARCO! POLO! Marco Polo left Italy and explored China and returned with lots of stories. His adventures made others want to explore.

Prince Henry the Navigator Henry of Portugal built a school for sailors and gathered ship-builders, map-makers, navigators, etc. together. They created a ship known as a caravel that could sail faster and carry more cargo.
