What is Title One Title One is a k-12 program a that provides additional academic support and learning opportunities for students at schools with high percentages of socio-economically disadvantaged children. The program is intended to help ensure that all students meet state academic standards.

Goals of Title One Increase academic achievement Provide direct instructional support to students. Provide professional development for teachers Promote parent education and involvement.

Parent Rights Ask for meetings and trainings. Review the results of annual parent involvement effectiveness survey Review the school’s achievement data Review the parent involvement plan for student achievement. Review and modify the Title One Parent Involvement Policy and Home/School Compact.

Parent Involvement The School Advisory Committee (SAC)provides parents with an opportunity to be involved in the academic program of the school. The SAC develops, monitors and evaluates the School Improvement Plan to implement programs and services that support students.

Parent Involvement At Brentwood Our Activities include: Quarterly Family Nights in the areas of reading, math, writing, and science. Brentwood Active Dads (B.A.D.) Family nights Seasonal celebrations Community of Caring events Parent Resource Room

School Achievement Data Schools analyze FAIR, Successmaker and FCAT results and review the AYP (annual year progress) status. Schools use the data to align curriculum to state and district academic standards Schools adjust instructional practices based on the findings of the assessment data.

School Improvement Plan Parents are informed of the district’s curriculum in Reading, Math, Writing and Science. Parents also receive information about the assessments used to measure the student progress in these academic areas.

Title One Funds (Federal Funds) Allocated on basis of number of students eligible for free/reduced lunch. Schools receive funds if 50% or more of students are eligible for free/reduced lunch. Schools in the district are ranked according to this percentage, and schools receive a certain amount of money per student.

Title One Funds (cont.) One percent of school’s total Title One budget is for parent involvement. Schools must set aside a minimum of 10% for staff professional development Funds must supplement, not supplant, district funds.

Title One Parent Involvement Plan Every Title One school, in collaboration with parents, must prepare a School parent involvement policy. The policy describes how the school will involve the parents in an organized, ongoing, and timely way in the planning, review, and improvement of the Title One program.

Brentwood's Title One Parent Involvement Plan Provide copies of the plan and invite input from parents Describe how plan is distributed –Copies are available in office –Copies sent home –Plan is on school’s website

The home school compact describes the responsibilities of the school, parent, and the student for improved student achievement. Developed in collaboration among parents and teachers. Updated periodically NCLB recommends that compacts be standards-based Home School Compact
