How to Make the Most of a Job Fair How can I best prepare for a Job Fair? Research, research, research!!! Find out who will be attending the job fair and which types of positions they will be targeting

Have a good understanding of your employment goals What kind(s) of job(s) are you targeting? It is important to have some idea about what you would like to do.

Prepare a short 60 second sales pitch about yourself You must be able to: - Properly introduce yourself - Intelligently discuss your skills and qualifications. Practice your handshake and introduction

Prepare a list of potential questions to ask employers Tell me about the positions you are looking to fill? Do you have a written job description I can take with me?

Give your clothes a final inspection. You never have a second chance to make a first impression. Conservative clothes are best.

What should I do on the day of the job fair? Arrive early Check out the floor plan Gather information Approach employers with confidence

What should I do on the day of the job fair? Maintain good eye contact Offer a firm handshake and a smile Be positive and upbeat

What should I do on the day of the job fair? Collect business cards Network with employers Show employers your skills

What not to do during a job fair? Don’t go with someone who is not looking for a job Don’t take up too much of the employers time Don’t say bad things about previous employers

What not to do during a job fair? Don’t interrupt an employer if they are with other job seekers -- you want to have a chance for a brief and meaningful conversation on a one-to-one basis

What should I do after the job fair? Now is the time to analyze your performance and sift through the information you gathered. Prioritize your list of leads Follow-up on contacts you made within the next week

… after the job fair How to make follow-ups – Phone calls – Letters or s – or both!! –Your post Job Fair strategy will be the determining factor of how successful the fair was for you!!
