Anuncios Welcome back! This week will be used to set goals and introduce our new semester, as well as reflect/review last semester. Seating charts will be ready by the beginning of next week or earlier, talk to me (not during class!) if you have a request about where to sit. Any behavior issues this week will strongly impact your seating assignment.

Nuestra Meta Class will be reminded of procedures and will hear about an overview for the 2nd semester! We will also set our personal goals for the semester

Repaso de las metas de clase ●Look beyond yourself. ●For example, comparing your own life to other people’s, helping your neighbors, and respecting the classroom expectations. ●Confidence to try, everyday. ●For example, we don’t do “I don’t know” or “I don’t feel like it”... It is fine to not know something right away, but it is not fine to stay there—either your teacher or your classmates will help you get to the answer. ●Belief that language is important. ●This will be different for each of you—we will talk about goals at the end of the class!

Repaso de las reglas de clase Show up to class: positive, engaged, prepared, respectful, and follow school rules. This looks like a student who comes in with a good attitude, respects the learning environment and material, does not need to be asked to do something more than once, and is considerate of peers and rules. When another classmate is speaking, you actively listen to what they are saying, just like they will do for you. This does not mean someone who always gets everything correct, but is someone who tries hard and can respect others and the rules. Consequencias (4 steps)

Teacher’s assistants and other reminders! Let me know if you are interested, they will be selected by beginning of next week. Paper’s handed back in bins 4 restroom passes per semester! Do not get up without permission. I will call on you when it is not interrupting the lesson or someone talking. Materials: Spiral and folder and something to write with. If you don’t have what you need for class, it must be handled during warmup or it will impact your professionalism grade for the day.

Grading Exactly the same as last semester…. But here is a reminder: Classwork (25%): Passports and occasionally other work. Homework (15%): Duolingo and vocabulary/grammar review! Projects (10%): Usually one per unit, almost always IN class. Quizzes (10%): 2 per unit, almost always multiple choice! (sometime a writing assignment will count as a quiz grade) Tests (20%): Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing

SPANISH 1: Right now, we can: Write a letter that includes a lot of information about ourselves, our lives, our families and our friends. Understand most of what someone is saying when they describe themselves or their lives. Read about someone’s life and answer questions about them. Hold a simple conversation and even speak about ourselves for more than 30 seconds.

SPANISH 1: by EOY, we will be able to... Write simple sentences and try to add details. Recognize and use vocabulary on a range of topics. You may still make errors, and sometimes it may interfere with comprehension. When speaking, you will generally be understood by someone who is used to talking with language learners. Sometimes you might make errors because you pause in the wrong place or forget what to say, but you can keep the conversation going by asking someone to repeat themselves or clarify what they meant. Overall, you will show 80% mastery of objectives we have learned this year.

Spanish 1: Los focos del semestre (what we need to do to get there!) We will be learning more in conversation settings AND I will be teaching more in Spanish, because our listening and our speaking are our lowest areas. You have to get used to HEARING it in order to be confident to SAY it. Again, this isn’t about perfect… it’s about effort and practice. Continuing to work on grammar and vocab—the more words you know, the more you will recognize and use when reading and writing.

SPANISH 2: Right now, we can: Write a short paragraphs that include a lot of information about ourselves, our lives, our families and our friends… including information in the present and past Understand most of what someone is saying when they describe themselves or a situation in the past/present Read about someone’s life/a situation and answer questions Hold a simple conversation and even speak about ourselves for more than 30 seconds in past/present

“Mis Metas” (My goals) There are two kinds of GOALS we are going to talk about today: Quantitative and Qualitative.

Mis metas (my goals): Un ejemplo Quantitative: I will make an 85 on all quizzes My average in this class will be a B+ I will know 1000 spanish words. I will reach my duolingo points every month on time. Qualitative: I will be able to hold a basic Spanish conversation without using English I will be able to talk about myself, my life, and my friends/family. I will be able to compare my life to the life of someone in a Spanish speaking country.

Es tu turno… ¿Qué son tus metas? In English, take a minute to reflect. I want you to come up with at least 2 quantitative and 2 qualitative goals for THIS class. Think about what you already know and where we are aiming for at the end of the semester. Next to each goal, write 1-2 steps of what you will do to REACH that goal. When you think you are finished, call me over to check what you have.

Duolingo day Tomorrow we will be checking in on our duolingo accounts. If you are new to my class, it will be explained them. Everyone else, make sure that you know your duolingo login for class tomorrow.
