Filtration Efficiency Aim: Evalaute the purity of the supplied air even if one HEPA is damaged Method: Record particles concentration inside cage in three different conditions: 1. removing cages in the same column of the cage in which data are recorded; 2. removing HEPA filter of the AHU; 3. removing HEPA filter inside the cage. Results: Findings: 0,3 micron 0,5 micron1,0 micron2,5 micron5,0 micron 10,0 micron (p/m^3) AMBIENT Cage – Normal condition Without cage HEPA filter Air supplied to the cage is sterile even if just one HEPA is working

Air speed Aim: Evaluate the air speed in different locations inside the cage (30, 60 and 90 mm heights) Method: Settings: +100 Pa. Results: Velocities expressed in m/s. For the velocity at the other heights, please open the attached test report. Findings: Air speed at animal level is well below 0.2 m/s as suggested in the guidelines.

Backup battery duration Aim: Evaluate the battery lifetime in case of power failure. Method: Settings: +100 Pa. Switch off the electricity supply Record the electrical tension of the batteries during time Minimal tension required for batteries: 21,6 V (useful to recharge batteries) Results: Findings: Battery lifetime > 48 h tested on a 72 cage places rack, with brand new battery h

Intra-cage pressure lasting Aim: Define the pressure decay curve after removing the cage from the rack. Method: Settings: +100 Pa. After reaching the set point, the cage is undocked Intra-cage pressure is periodically sampled Results: Findings: After 15 minutes the intra-cage pressure is still strongly positive. With animals this result is even better.

Static conditions Aim: Evaluate the intra-cage environmental conditions when the cage is not ventilated Method: ISOcage with 5 CD1 mice (>50g) 120g of bedding Detection for 15 minutes of CO2 NH3 O2 CH4 Detection of T and RH for 30 minutes Results:

Noise Level Aim: Collect data about the noise emitted by the AHU into the cage. Method: Settings: +100 Pa. Place the sensor into the cage, complete with bedding feeder and bottle Measure the background noise. Results: Findings: Noise into the cage is always below 50 dB. BackFront

Particle Counting Aim: State the washing time through the particles counting. Method: Settings: +100 Pa. Sample intra-cage particles in order to measure how long a complete cage volume washing takes Results: Findings: In 9 minutes the cage volume is completely cleared.

Intra-cage pressure with just one blower working Aim: Validate if the system is able to reach and mantain the set point even if one of the two blower is not working. Method: Settings: +100 Pa. Intra cage pressures are measured. Results: Findings: Set point was mantained and the pressures range was within ±10%.

Acceptance tests report These tests are performed in 100% of manufactured AHUs: DOP test – filter integrity test Aeraulic test Electical tests Sensor calibration
