Salty Waters Why we need to drink water

Why do we need to take in fluid? We need to take in fluids to replace lost water and salt There are many ways in which we can take in fluid Remember fluid can be taken in in the food we eat as well as what we drink

How do we know we need to take on board more water? We feel thirsty Normally it is too late once we feel thirsty – we are already dehydrated How many cups of water should we consume on average every day? -we should consume 2 litres of water every dayto keep our body hydrated

Salty Water If we need to replace salt, can we drink salty water?

Salty Water Activity You are going to simulate the effect of salty water on our cells using a carrot Follow your instructions carefully

Conclusions If our cells were placed in salty water they would lose their internal water to try to dilute the salt. We would then lose more water and become dehydrated Therefore we cannot drink salty water to replace lost fluid
