How does different levels of carbon dioxide in the air affect plant's growth?

Plants take in carbon dioxide and releases oxygen through their stomata, which will be regulated to specifically let oxygen and carbon dioxide in or out. In the condition of increased carbon dioxide the plant will have more chance to photosynthesize using the elevated amount of carbon dioxide to produce more food, and also more oxygen.

As you know, plants take in carbon dioxide and releases oxygen during the process of photosynthesis. Carbon dioxide is crucial to plants, just like oxygen is crucial to animals. This experiment will test what level of carbon dioxide will plants grow best upon. We will investigate this question by using careful measurement, and also delicate apparatus that will further back up our scientific finding.

1.Set-up the sealed containers by sealing all the sides so no gas can leave it, poke a hole at the bottom so we can slip a tube into it, this tube will be used to let the gases go in.

2.Put the plants into the sealed containers

3. For control group we are pumping in 5 L of gas at atmospheric pressure through the tube.

4. For experimental group we will make a mixture of 10% increased carbon dioxide, 25% increased carbon dioxide, and 50% increased carbon dioxide. Also there will be decrease level of carbon dioxide in the same rate stated.

5. Each day at 5pm check the pressure of gas in the containers, and also the components of gas, if the level of carbon dioxide were to drop we will pump in more of it to retain the desired percentage

6. After one week measure the plant’s height and weight (measure pot and soil weight before hand)

7. Continue these steps for 5 weeks, then analyze the data.

Independent variable: Level of carbon dioxide in air Dependent variable: The growth and condition of plants Constant: Setting for the experiment, amount of water for plants, type of plant
