Biography Donatello was born circa 1386 in Florence and died December 13, 1466. He grew up and was educated in the house of the Martelli family. He received his first training in a gold smith’s workshop owned by Lorenzo Ghiberti. He worked with Ghiberti on statues of prophets in churches.
