C D Cover Brainstorm

r O c k Covers What is mostly presented on a rock cover! Firstly most rock band cover show dark eye catching colours. Red is a danger colour and black is bold. The black really presents out the darkness of some bands in rock. There gothic style. There shouting and screaming technique. Black on my opinion shows the unique darkness for their group. In rock covers. There band names are in different fonts and are jumbled.

Covers R & B What is mostly presented on a R&B cover! With R&B covers. They really focus more on the artist. As you can see they have given out a portrait image of the artist. With these artist being modern. I think there names are printed in a more urban text. In a way its there style. Even though the shades of these covers are not very appealing i.e. shade of grey and black. However they are bright shades. This bring the lighting on the artist and makes them stand out more These are the artists I would listen to if listening to R&B

Electronic Covers What is mostly presented on a electronic cover! Firstly they have purposely made the covers backgrounds dark shade colours. The reason for this is so they can print the artist name in bright bold colours so it stands out and attracts the person. On these covers, they really do symbolise what electronic music is. Sometime scary i.e. the bulldog and the suffocated face on the top cover. However the bottom cover look like a speaker. This shows the beats with the circles showing its like sound waves. After there name is printed they have a little small text. I think this is the band showing a statement to the audience. This can give meaning of what the album is all about. My favourite electro artists.

FOLK COVERS All the covers have something in common. They relate to their music genre. Johnny Cash and Taylor Swift hold guitars. And Bon Iver has a country location. The artists name has been printed in like a country western text. Like Taylor swifts name looks like if you go to a dinner that’s what it looks like. Cash’s one looks like those irons that you press on bulls. Also Bon Iver looks like simple handwriting. I think the black and white brings out more emotion. In a way bring out their personal emotions. This I think helps give the true meaning of the album I listen to these singers.

P O P Covers All covers focus on the singer by portrait style. Focusing more on the bands they have been symbolised with colours. And the way they are laid out especially on the U2 cover. They show their equality to the band. However with colours they use Céline Dion's skin tone to blend with her hair colour so she isn't being overpowered. In there own little way. These covers present there own little detail to symbolise them. Maroon 5 use there name to symbolise them more i.e. the letter M and O. the U2 cover. With the word “Pop” its well symbolised as the band are laid out in a Pop art form and they pop out when looking at the album. Dion’s cover has words saying “Eyes on me”. This is well presented as Dion shows one eye. This makes the eye more bigger and more catchy to look at. Artist I like in this genre.

Picking my favourite covers

The portrait style really shows the dominance of the artist as the shot covers up most of the cover. They both use different colour shades to bring out their face as there eyes are looking into the camera. There both portrait from the shoulder up. Their name comes first before the name of there album. The text is very urban as this artist is modern

The bold yellow text shows dominance and really stands out over the black and portrait photo of the bulldog. The sub writing “No More Idols” I think is a statement. I think this statement describes the true meaning of the album. What I means is that stop looking up to people and look up to yourself. With the sub writing being in smaller text to the bands name. this show that the statement isn't over powering, its small but effective as they say. I think this album has its comparisons. Yes it don’t look exactly the same but look at the colours and layout. Firstly there isn't an animal, there's a human. However they are both portrait with a black and white colour. The artist name is printed on the centre in front of the person/animals face. Red is eye catching but it isn't bold enough to see some letters. I think that cover could have followed the yellow text. A black and white portrait photo with centre text is the similarities.

Black and white photos bring out more emotion. As a folk singer. Taylor swift brings out the country western style. Squared shirt with sleeves up, guitar are styles of country western. The text on the cover really shows country western writing styles. Also in a way it looks like Taylor swift signed the cover like an autograph. This photo is a mixture of portrait and lifestyle. The background and props show the unique country western lifestyle. And Taylor swift really gives out the portrait part of the photo. Both album covers are black and white portrait. Both artist have a guitar in there hand. You have a bit of text both at the top and bottom of the of the cover.

When studying CD covers we studies blur’s cover. After picking U2’s cover I immediately thought that looks like blurs. The layout is exactly the same i.e. the four squares with each band member. Portrait shots, band name in the middle. They are symbolised with there own colours. I think the band member on the top right shaded in blue is the lead singer. This is because he has glasses on where the others don’t. The white text in the centre of the cover. It stands out as the colour is white. However I think it would be better if the text was more bolder like blur’s cover.
