Presentation transcript:

Ceramics 1 Coil Pots Coils give you the ability to make organic forms. You can smooth coils or use them in decorative ways.

Coils can be left visible or smoothed out.

Coils placed in a press mold (bowl): If you have time, you may make an extra bowl to donate to the Empty Soup Bowl Supper held by Arcadia University.

Requirements: Coil pot must be 8 inches tall to earn an A. It must also have organic movement, meaning that it moves in and/or out. You must use two decorative coil techniques OR one technique alternating with smooth areas. The other option is to add sculptural elements (see examples to follow). Craftsmanship is important. Pay attention to details, and smooth coils on the inside of pot neatly. Glazing should be applied evenly and color choices should enhance your coils. Color choice should create unity so work looks complete and balanced. Colors should not compete or distract from the coil decorations.

Optional: You may add sculptural elements, such as animal features.
