POIWG #20, EMCS Roundtable, Feb 2, 2006 EMCS Inc 13 Operations Sequence: EMCS COMMISSIONING-2 Public Services PRO-P/L-CMD (2) Commanding to open the Rack Isolation Valve (RIV), and then to close the RIV 15 to 17 hours during the RefEC Run EMCS REFEC RUN Simulated experiment run using and testing all EMCS subsystems, software, internal interfaces, video observation, etc. Completely operated from ground after the installation of the Ref ECs Requires extra power, but amount depends on temps of cabin air and cooling loop. 3 day run Activity - EMCS PL PWR/THRM/DAT - during EMCS REFEC RUN EMCS POWER DOWN Via ground commanding. Main Control Power circuit breaker left in “closed” position and switches left “On” or “Closed” during facility power down Public Service - PRO-P/L-CMD Summary – Performs the EMCS check-out using the installed ECs. After successful completion, EMCS is commissioned and ready to perform science experiments. No crew activity required via procedures. After this sequence, there should be an effort to delay the next sequence, TROPI PL OPS, from 1 to 21 days in order for EMCS to evaluate the findings from the experiment run.

POIWG #20, EMCS Roundtable, Feb 2, 2006 EMCS Inc 13 Operations Sequence: TROPI PL OPS Public Service – PRO-P/L-CMD, to perform activity, EMCS POWER UP (CMD) EMCS TAPE REPLACE – EMCS VIDEO TAPE REPLACEMENT Replacing the (full) video tape in the EMCS Video Recorder located in the EMCS ISIS Drawer EMCS EC REPLACE – EMCS EXPERIMENT CONTAINER REPLACEMENT Replacing the Ref ECs left from commissioning with the first 8 ECs containing the EMCS Seed Cassettes (Tropi) Activity – EMCS PL PWR/THRM/DAT Public Service - PRO-P/L-CMD Activity - EMCS HS PURGE An 11 hour activity to purge the atmosphere of the EMCS Holding Structure and replace it with a known gas mixture required by the experiment, supplied by the EMCS CO2 Supply Module and the Air Mix Supply Module. Commanding required to open and close the RIV and ACS valve. Public Service - PRO-P/L-CMD Activity – TROPI EXP RUN During each run, there will be intervals of digital stills or other data down linked to confirm experimental conditions /give status of plant development. Command windows needed during these intervals as a contingency backup for the automatic processing. EMCS TAPE REPLACE – EMCS VIDEO TAPE REPLACEMENT (4) Activity – MWA CS SETUP (1 time) In order to process the EMCS Seed Cassettes (Tropi) being removed from the ECs EMCS EC REPLACE – EMCS EXPERIMENT CONTAINER REPLACEMENT TROPI SMPL REMOVE – TROPI SAMPLE REMOVAL AND STOWAGE Summary: Crew will perform the tape and experiment replacement procedures prior to the first run, then replace the tapes 4 times during each run, or 13 times total. The ECs will be removed after each run and the Tropi samples removed, placed into bags, then into MELFI. Repeat for 3 runs, 1 day min between each run

POIWG #20, EMCS Roundtable, Feb 2, 2006 EMCS Inc 13 Operations Sequence: EMCS FAC DRYOUT –To power down EMCS (via ground commanding) after any experiment run, drying all facility systems. If there are more than 8-10 weeks in which EMCS is not being used, EMCS WPUMP SERVICE (see Sequence: EMCS Commissioning-1) will be scheduled to power up EMCS, perform commands to cycle pumps to keep tubes from clogging, then power EMCS back down, all via ground commanding. Activity – EMCS DRY MODE –Commanding required during the 2 hour duration. Requires additional power over normal 300 watts for base EMCS experiment runs. Activity - EMCS PL PWR/THRM/DAT Activity – EMCS POWER DOWN (CMD) –Public Service – PRO-P/L-CMD Sequence: TROPI XFER COLDBAG –No earlier than 24 hours prior to undock of flight 12A. Samples removed from MELFI and placed in Double Coldbag with Icepacs via the following procedure. Tropi samples must not rise above –20 degrees C. The Double Coldbag can only maintain the required sample temperature for a maximum of 5.8 days. TROPI XFER DCOLDBAG – TROPI TRANSFER TO DOUBLE COLDBAG –Crew member retrieves EMCS Cold Stowage Bags (12 total) from MELFI and packs into Double Coldbag along with Icepacs, 30 minute activity.

POIWG #20, EMCS Roundtable, Feb 2, 2006 EMCS Inc 13 Operations  Sequence: EMCS FAC CLEANUP  EMCS TCS SPONGE RPLC – EMCS THERMAL CONTROL SYSTEM SPONGE REPLACEMENT  EMCS CO2 REPLACE – EMCS CO2 SUPPLY MODULE REPLACEMENT  EMCS AIRMIX REPLACE – EMCS AIR MIX SUPPLY MODULE REPLACEMENT  These 3 maintenance procedures pertain to modules that are external to the EMCS Holding Structure. They can be performed with or without power to the EMCS facility. Can be done individually, or sequentially.  EMCS RELIEF VALVE CK – EMCS RELIEF VALVE CHECK  EMCS LSS FLTR RPLC – EMCS ROTOR BASED LIFE SUPPORT SYSTEM FILTER REPLACEMENT  EMCS H2O RESV RPLC – EMCS WATER REESERVOIR REPLACEMENT  EMCS GASRMV MOD RPLC – EMCS GAS REMOVAL MODULE REPLACEMENT  EMCS SENSOR MOD RPLC – EMCS SENSOR MODULE REPLACEMENT  EMCS RBLSS MOD RPLC – EMCS RBLSS MODULE REPLACEMENT  All procedures are in order based on likelihood of occurrence. They are all written as standalone activities, and therefore can be performed at any time, but crew time can be saved by performing in groups. For example, the bottom 4 must be operated with power off and the main EMCS Holding Structure Door open. It must be decided during the JIT process which activities will be required.
