Exploring Leadership Student Driven Plan for Positive Change

Vision Provide an inclusive environment to all UC students –With a growing campus and student body, it is becoming more difficult to connect with other students, especially those within other colleges of the university. –We hope to provide a plan to increase interaction between these colleges as we feel the interaction has become almost non-existent. –UC definition of Inclusion: Authentically brings traditionally excluded individuals and/or groups into processes, activities, and decision/policy making.

Plan for Positive Change UNIVERSITY GAMES Intercollegiate games or events such as sports, trivia and university history to promote university inclusiveness. End Goal Create Student Body with interdisciplinary focus that continues beyond college.

Stakeholders Student Government – undergrad & graduate government SAB RAPP College Deans Prez. Ono FYE (First Year Experience) Resident halls UC international

Short Term SMART Goals Create a survey determining student interest in university games by July 28, Write application for UC Invents grant. Develop games or activities to achieve university-wide inclusiveness. Create Pilot Program to test how the event could be run.

Long Term SMART Goals Develop the Pilot Program into a Full Program expanding the games. Increase student involvement within the first year of the games. Increase interdisciplinary understanding by interaction amongst colleges over time. Continuous improvement of university games through student feedback. Create student group to sustain efforts

Random teams that last the semester. Diversity games & international games & PAC & ability games are pre-established which could be incorporated into University games. Certain competitions (Physical) can be exclusive to some groups, so include events of a non physical nature. Physical contact will be exclusive. Goal I and IV of 5 year diversity plan align with University Games which will bring support from RAPP and other support organizations. Run the plan by people and implement their advice (stakeholders) (identity centers) (AACR) (WC) (LGBTQ) (RAPP). Use UC style book for inclusive language in games and marketing. Gender, Race, Sexual Orientation, Non-wealth, homeless/food insecure, nontraditional students (older), Educational background and religion can lead to exclusion. To help limit exclusion and increase diversity talk to their respective services. No gender only events even on application form, same with race also look at calendar before scheduling (Missouri U) to prevent religious holiday conflicts. UC invents has grants for innovative ideas on campus for possible funding. Stakeholder Meeting – Rebecca Leeman

Stakeholder Meeting – President Ono Emory University hosts Songfest – Incoming freshman from each college learn a song and compete against other colleges UC athletics discussed having Intercollegiate Olympics last year Who to talk to: Get the Deans of the 14 Colleges to buy in Provost – manages all of the Deans Student Govt. How to carry-out the games: During Orientation/Welcome Week? – Create Culture from the beginning Through the residency halls – RA’s would have ability to coordinate How to accomplish inclusiveness: Ability to change course structure offering more Interdisciplinary courses

Stakeholder Meeting – Christina Beer Look into similar programs other Universities may have What types of incentives could there be: Tickets to basketball or football game, possibly in the new suites Campus Bookstore gift cards Dinner with President Ono Cost for use of on campus locations such as 5/3 Run event week after welcome week – 1 st week of classes and spirit drops off. Have RA’s coordinate teams, possibly by floor Create student group to sustain event long term – UFB and communication via SAB Planning and development

Stakeholder Meeting – Shivam Shah Current event called the Diversity Games occurring through Ethnic Programs and Services – Patrice Barnes Identifying possible sources of funding or deciding how much, if any the event will cost. How do you accomplish getting students from other colleges to participate? When would be a good time to have this? Some time periods are more over programmed than others. As President Ono suggested during welcome week would be a time when many students are free
