The Culture of Italy By Kate and Karma

Location Italy is shaped like a boot and is in Western Europe.

Religion Religion Roman Catholicism is the largest religious group in Italy. Catholics make up 85% percent of Italy’s population as shown on the graph to the right. There is freedom of religion in Italy.

Politics Italian politics are conducted through a parliamentary, democratic republic, with a multi- party system. The current President of Italy is Giorgio Napolitano. The current Prime Minister is Mario Monti.

Fun Fact Did you know that in Italy they pull one of a child's ear for how old they are? For example:If it is your birthday and you are turning 12 they would pull your ear 12 times.

Artistic The arts in Italy include music, art, and dance. Italy is famous for it’s art. Artists include- Donatello, Bellini, Leonardo da Vinci. A famous dance in Italy is Southern Tarantella. The Italian national anthem is II Canto degli Italiani.

Kinship In Italy the word famiglia referrers to the nuclear family as well as the extended family which includes all the family up to third cousins.

Economics The Italian economy has changed since the end of World War ll. It developed from an agriculturally based economy to an industrial state ranked as the worlds 5 th largest industrial economy. Italy belongs to the Group of Eight (G-8) industrialized nations; it is a member of the European Union and the OECD.
