UNIDAD 3 Relation between the systems involved in nutrition UNIT 3 Biology and Geology 3. Secondary Education What is the difference between physical and chemical digestion? Physical processes have two main objectives: to reduce the size of the food and to facilitate the substances go down through the digestive tract. Chemical processes are in charge of transforming food into nutrients thanks to different substances that digestive juices contain.

UNIDAD 3 Relation between the systems involved in nutrition UNIT 3 Biology and Geology 3. Secondary Education Explain the absorption process It is the final stage of the digestive process. It takes place in the small intestine where the nutrients obtained thanks to digestion, are absorbed to be used by cells to carry out the metabolism. The absorption of simple glucids, fatty acids and aminoacids is carried out through intestinal villi and protusions (microvilli, specific cells of the intestine). From these cells the nutrients reach the blood vessels and will be transported all over the body. The large intestine absorbs most water, mineral salts and vitamins.

UNIDAD 3 Relation between the systems involved in nutrition UNIT 3 Biology and Geology 3. Secondary Education Quiz time: Bile is a substance secreted by the_______. This substance is stored in the_______ ______________ It is poured into the _______________ once fats reach the small intestine. Bile acts as an emulgent, this means that collaborates in the digestion of fats.

UNIDAD 3 Relation between the systems involved in nutrition UNIT 3 Biology and Geology 3. Secondary Education Quiz time: Bile is a substance secreted by the__liver_____. This substance is stored in the___gall bladder____ It is poured into the __duodenum_ once fats reach the small intestine. Bile acts as an emulgent, this means that collaborates in the digestion of fats.

UNIDAD 3 Relation between the systems involved in nutrition UNIT 3 Biology and Geology 3. Secondary Education Question Why does your throat burn when you vomit? Because of the hydrochloric acid that is a component of the gastric juice.

UNIDAD 3 Relation between the systems involved in nutrition UNIT 3 Biology and Geology 3. Secondary Education Question Athletes consume glucose when they are performing intense exercises. What are the advantages of consuming glucose instead of certain foods like bread or potatoes?

UNIDAD 3 Relation between the systems involved in nutrition UNIT 3 Biology and Geology 3. Secondary Education Question Athletes consume glucose when they are performing intense exercises. What are the advantages of consuming glucose instead of certain foods like bread or potatoes? Glucose is a monosaccharide and it is not necessary to digest it. It appears quickly in the blood and it goes quickly to the muscles. Bread or potatoes have starch ( a polysaccharide) and needs to be digested to release the molecules of glucose. It will take a lot of time to have the glucose available for the muscles.
