Multiplying Decimals 12/7/2015

To Multiply: You do not align the decimals. Instead, place the number with more digits on top. Multiply Count the number of decimal places (from the right) in each factor. Use the total number of decimal places in your two factors to place the decimal in your product.

Example: 5.63 x x two one three.

Example: 0.53 x has more digits (4) than 0.53 (3), so it goes on top x Decimal Places three two five.

Example: 2.7 x 3.5

Let’s try a few together.

7.56 x 3.8 =

.3445 x 3.9 =

x =

.55 x.007 =

You’re correct!

Incorrect, try again Remember to count the digits behind the decimal points in the problem. You must have this many digits behind the decimal point in the answer.
