EGEE-III INFSO-RI Enabling Grids for E-sciencE Pole 2 wrap up Vera, Helene, Malgorzata, David, Fotis, Diana

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE EGEE-III INFSO-RI Validation of documents Currently 4 sources and 3 separate documents – There is a common section which is automatically included into 2 of these. All in good shape. ROCs and SITEs, COD, and ROD&C-COD can all be forwarded to ROC managers for validation. – Time frame? Send to ROC managers now Get validation by?? 20 th April at latest? At that point immediate broadcast to sites etc.

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE EGEE-III INFSO-RI Future Versions For the purpose of having 2 nd versions of documents ready for validation after COD-20 (June) it will be useful to start working on these in the next weeks. – COD manual is removed – ROD&C-COD is split into 2 documents ROD C-COD (to be renamed COD at this stage) – Best practices manual – Dashboard HOWTO/Training Guide – ROCs and SITEs revised to reflect the new model

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE EGEE-III INFSO-RI Downtime How do we address downtimes for sites that are down for more than 1 month in any 2 month period – Does this need to be specified in procedures? Some sites might only respond to official procedures – There is a monthly availability/reliability report – and sites should be at 70% or more level. At that point it's up to the discretion of the ROC whether to suspend a site. It might be best to keep this the way it is currently but a best practices recommendation would be useful

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE EGEE-III INFSO-RI C-COD Handover Is the handover tool fixed? – Does it get to the right people? – Is the template OK? – WLCG point in the agenda regarding C-COD There is a point in the C-COD section for a proposal of a handover template (Section 7.3) – Other changes need to be made in the dashboard? Need to cross check that the handover log reaches the operations meeting. ROD handovers can be decided by the ROCs, although there is a tool available on the dashboard

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE EGEE-III INFSO-RI Best Practices ROCs and SITEs Sites can voluntarily suspend themselves. ROCs have discretion about suspending a site – Availability/reliability reports can determine whether a site is meeting its requirements. – Recommendation that sites with downtime of 50% over a 2 month period MAY be suspended by the ROC. If a site has a problem which takes longer to solve, then they should go into unscheduled downtime. – If the SE goes into downtime, it is recommended that the CE also goes into downtime. (That is associated with the SE.)

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE EGEE-III INFSO-RI Best Practices ROD and C-COD C-COD should not contact RODs after a weekend regarding new alarms until the alarm aging is fixed – Give them an extra day.... C-COD should respect the scheduled downtime of sites and nodes with respect to alarms. ROD does not have to deal with these alarms. – Also a too be fixed in dashboard? This is more a note to C-COD to observe downtime!

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE EGEE-III INFSO-RI Use case → best practices Responsibility of C-COD ? – Use cases need to be better documented – C-COD acts as the collator of use cases – C-COD should identify these – or sites/ROCs can transfer their experience to C-COD Who validates these? – Discuss with POLE1 Should be recorded in next version of operations manuals.

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE EGEE-III INFSO-RI Training/user guide David is working on on a Dashboard User Guide – Will need constant updates as the Dashboard evolves – Based on a training guide Current training guide could also be made available for users as a “quick start guide” – Regular updates are also necessary “Local” regional dashboard guides are the responsibility of the ROC who provides it.

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE EGEE-III INFSO-RI FORUM HOW to establish it? – How to ensure that the knowledge is spread? – What form should it be in? Web based? Would need a moderator based? (Or combination?) Regular meetings (like OGF)? (How many times?) – how/who does the information get stored

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE EGEE-III INFSO-RI New POLE2 members All new members are welcome to join in the fun!

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE EGEE-III INFSO-RI Cartoon version of document As an alternative version for the operations manual – Particularly relevant to new younger users and of course the older user.
