Presentation transcript:

 First aid- the emergency care given to a person who is injured or suddenly becomes ill  Minor injures can become a major one if no first aid is given  Not only doctors and trained medical workers should know first aid, you should too  First aid should be given until qualified medical help arrives  Emergency medical technicians (EMT) and paramedics are trained in first aid and rescue techniques

 Basic rules 1. Keep calm  Have a clear mind to help the victim  Keep the victim calm to keep them from hurting themselves 2. Plan quickly what you need to do 3. Get professional help  Call 911  Be quick to contact your parents, teacher, neighbor 4. Be an encouragement to the injured person

 Sports aid  Regular exercise is an important part of good health, but with every form of recreation, you need to be aware of potential dangers and of first aid care that might be needed.  Most sports-related injuries affect the muscular system and/or skeletal system  For minor injuries such as muscle soreness, muscle strain, or a minor sprain, remember the RICE treatment.

 There are four steps to the RICE treatment 1. Rest  Refrain from using the affected part to prevent further injury  Gradually rebuild your exercise program 2. Ice  Place an ice pack on the injured muscle(s)  Ice packs will prevent or reduce swelling

3. Compression  Wrap an elastic bandage around the injured area to secure the ice pack.  Do not wrap the area so tightly as to cause numbness.  After 30 minutes, remove the ice for 15 minutes, and repeat the process for three hours. 4. Elevation  Elevate the injured area above the level of the heart.
