ELEMENTS OF ART Vocabulary: Line, Color, Shape, Texture, Form, Space, Value
LINE The element of art that is a continuous mark made on some surface by a moving point.
COLOR Is what the eye sees as reflected off of an object –Hue – name of the color –Value – lightness or darkness of a hue –Intensity – brightness or dullness of a hue (Warm colors, cool colors, primary, secondary, tertiary, complimentary, etc.)
SHAPE An art element that refers to an area clearly set off by one or more of the other elements. Organic Geometric
FORM An object with three dimensions. (sphere, cube, cylinder, pyramid, etc.)
SPACE An element of art that refers to the real or implied distance between, around, above, below, and within objects. (Positive and negative space) & (foreground middle ground and background)
TEXTURE The element of art that refers to the way things feel, or look as though they might feel when touched.
VALUE is illustrated by the reflected light and the cast shadow. Example: Value chart going from dark to light.
