ANALYTICAL REPORTS Presents and analyses data Draws conclusion from the data and makes recommendations The most complete of all reports, covering all phases of a particular problem

Examples of reports... PROGRESS REPORT Written to inform a supervisor, associate or customer about the progress of a project over a certain period of time. Explain any or all the following: How much work is complete What part of the work is currently in progress What work remains to be done Any unexpected problems How the project is going on in general.

Functions of a Progress Report Reassures recipients thay you are making progress and the project is going smoothly, and that it will be completed by the expected date Provides recipients with information of the work of the project Gives recipients a chance to evaluate the project and request changes Gives a chance to discuss problems of the project and to forewarn recipients. Helps to establish a work schedule to enable the project to complete on time.

Written for several reasons Laboratory Report Written for several reasons To communicate laboratory work to management To archive the work so that the work will not have to be done in future Can be organized into abstracts, introduction, procedures, results and discussions

DESIGN REPORT Written to introduce and document engineering and scientific designs. Generally, it has two audiences: 1.includes other engineers and scientists interested in how the design works and how effective the design is 2. includes management interested in the application and effectiveness of the design

CAN YOU THINK OF AN EXAMPLE??? Feasibility Report Studies a situation ( e.g a problem or opportunity) and a plan to do something about it . Then determines whether that plan is “feasible” ( technologically, practically or economically etc...) Not only gives data but also the reasoning behind the recommendations CAN YOU THINK OF AN EXAMPLE???

RECOMMENDATION REPORT Starts from a stated need, a selection of choices Example: A company might be looking for a software and wants a recommendation on which product is the best. DISCUSS.... If you were asked to give recommendations...what would you do??

Compares a thing/product to a set of requirements EVALUATION REPORT Provides an opinion or judgment rather than a yes-no -maybe answer or a recommendation Compares a thing/product to a set of requirements (or criteria) and determines how well it meets those requirements Example : ABCD Multimedia Company supplied their educational software for pre-viewing in an attempt to promote their product. Prospective buyers will evaluate and answer questions like: Did it work? Was it worth purchasing?
